Lily Cole veste borracha da Amazonia / Lily Cole dresses rubber from the Amazon Rainforest

On the 6th May 2013, the rubber from the Amazon Rainforest became known internationally. Lily Cole, who is the embassador of the Sky Rainforest Rescue wore a FSA rubber dress designed by the English stylist Vivienne Westwood in the Met Ball 2013 in New York.

The material was produced last year by the rubber tapping community from the Parque das Ciganas at the Brazilian State of Acre. As a design consultant of the project, I accompanied the productive process together within the community. 

The FSA (Folha Semi-Artefato / Semi Artefact Rubber) was developed by the Lateq laboratory from the University of Brasilia, coordinated by the chemistry Floriano Pastore Jr. and his team. The material represents one more alternative for the sustainability of the rubber tapping communities from the rainforest. 

I feel very proud of everybody that is part of this journey with the wild rubber from the Amazon Rainforest.  To see our material from the Brazilian Amazon to the world is really an award for the heart!

Lily Cole in custom-made Vivienne Westwood at the Met Ball 2013

No dia 6 de maio de 2013 a borracha da Amazônia ficou internacionalmente conhecida quando a modelo e atriz Lily Cole, embaixatriz da Sky Rainforest Rescue, saiu em todos os jornais com seu vestido de borracha FSA, desenhado por não menos que a estilista inglesa Vivienne Westwood. O vestido foi a sensação do Met Ball 2013 em Nova York. 

A borracha FSA do vestido de Lily foi produzida ano passado pela comunidade seringueira do Parque das Ciganas no Acre. Como consultora do projeto da Sky Rainforest Rescue fiz parte do processo de treinamento e produção da borracha junto à comunidade. A borracha FSA (Folha Semi-Artefato) foi desenvolvida pelo Projeto Tecbor do Laboratorio de Tecnologia Química da Universidade de Brasilia, coordenado pelo Professor Floriano Pastore Jr. e sua equipe. 

A borracha representa mais uma alternativa para as comunidades seringueiras da Amazônia. Parabenizo a todos que têm sido parte dessa caminhada pela preservação da floresta e sustentabilidade de suas comunidades.  É realmente maravilhoso ver os frutos desse trabalho, na Amazônia, dentro da comunidade, e pelo mundo afora.
